EDITORIAL SERVICES
K.E.M.I.J. Publishing editors are among the best in the industry. Our editors follow the most current edition of The Chicago Manual of Style, the premier style guide used in the publishing industry. You can count on our team of professionals to provide the appropriate level of editorial attention that your book needs to clean up your text while carefully preserving your unique voice.
Core Editing
Nothing reduces the professionalism and impact of a book more than typos and grammar errors. K.E.M.I.J. Publishing Core Editorial Services provide a careful review of the very basics of your book, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. What you get is a clean, professionally-edited manuscript, and the peace of mind that comes along with knowing that your book is ready for readers.
Small Book Review $299.00
K.E.M.I.J. Publishing editors carefully review your full manuscript (under 5,000 words) and provide you with the edits best suited to your book. This all-inclusive service is an excellent option for children’s books. We won’t just point out what’s not working; we can help you decide exactly how to fix it.
Here’s what to expect:
1.) Line Editing: We perfect your spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and syntax. And we’ll provide recommendations for word choice and improving overall readability. 2,) Content Editing: We confirm the consistency of information and ideas throughout the whole book, and we also focus on more extensive sentence restructuring.
Our editors use Microsoft Word® to track their changes, so you always retain control over final edits. Our editors typically turn your manuscript around in three to four weeks. After that time, your editor will reach out with their edits and suggestions for improvement. Please Note: This service does not include our advanced editorial services, such as Developmental Editing. Rather, it is a combination of our Editorial Assessment, Line Editing, and Content Editing services.
Editorial Assessment $499.00
Our Editorial Assessment evaluates sections of your manuscript for its editorial quality and publishing readiness. A portion of your work (typically the first chapter, or about 1,700 words) will be edited to provide you with a specific sample edit. You will also receive a general overview of your manuscript and constructive comments towards improving your writing and book.
The editorial evaluator will recommend the services of an appropriate editorial specialist — from a Line Editor to Developmental Editor. You may then follow the reviewer's suggestions and purchase those services from K.E.M.I.J. Publishing. Our Editorial Services staff will assign your book to a specialist who will address the issues raised in the Editorial Assessment and give your manuscript the professional attention that it would receive at a traditional publishing house. You may also choose to use your own freelance editor or make the recommended changes yourself. The typical timeline for this service is two weeks, depending on our work queue and the complexity of your work.
Note: The Editorial Assessment is not a replacement for our editorial services. Rather, it is a preliminary diagnostic tool, examining small sections of the manuscript in detail to pinpoint areas in need of improvement. Evaluators offer examples of items that could be strengthened and give critique and commentary across a range of topics.
Content Editing $0.046 per Word
Our Content Edit is our heaviest Core Editing service. This service includes a Line Edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax, word choice and overall readability. Plus, with Content Editing your editing specialist also focuses on restructuring sentences and streamlining the style of your work, including the following:
Fiction Books: The editor will focus on maintaining consistency of details in the plot, characters and setting. Nonfiction Books: The editor will monitor consistency of information and ideas. Using Microsoft® Word, your copyeditor will track every change and recommendation, so you always remain in control of your content.
*There is a 5,000-word minimum charge for all editing services.

Developmental Editing service is a powerful combination of services in three distinct steps:
Developmental Evaluation
Content Editing
Quality Review
Phase One: Developmental Evaluation
A developmental editor gives your manuscript a high-level review at the paragraph, chapter, and book levels. The editor provides comments throughout the manuscript, to identify areas of your work that may need overall revisions.
Nonfiction Books: The editor determines if the content is complete and appropriate for the readership and purpose of the work. The editor also analyzes the work to ensure that lists and tables are used effectively throughout, (2) concepts are developed adequately, (3) and material is well organized.
Fiction Books: The editor will determine whether the content relates appropriately to the readership and genre. Plot, pace, characterization and dialogue are also considered.
Phase Two: Content Edit
After you've completed any large scale changes at the suggestion of the developmental editor, the content editor takes over. This phase include a complete Content Edit. The Content Edit is included in the Developmental Editing package. Errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure will be caught and corrected by the editor.
Phase Three: Quality Review
After you have reviewed your Content Edit and submitted the updated version of your manuscript, we will perform a Quality Review service to check your work. This will not review the entire manuscript. Instead, an editor will check over all the revisions you made to the manuscript after the Content Edit in order to eliminate any errors or problems added in during your revision.
This entire editing process typically is completed within three to four months (not including any time that you spend with the manuscript). When complete, your work will be clear, concise and ready to wow your audience.
